A short introduction to who I am and why I started a blog section on my website!

My name is Olivia Brytz, I am 23 years old and I have a passion for content creation.
My love for videography and photography goes far back, and is purely driven by wanting to capture memories. I am very lucky to come from a rather creative background, despite both my parents not working within creative industries, they always brought creativity into the home. Since I was little, my mum and dad were always capturing everything, my mum always snapping away photos and my dad would bring our camcorder pretty much to every occasion. We would film holidays, events, and even the mundane day to day life spent at home. I am eternally grateful for this, because now I have records of memories I would have no recollection of if it wasn't for the stacks of video footage and photographs we have. So many precious memories captured that make up my own personal history and really show who I am now.
My drive behind creating is tied to my desire to want to remember everything. I am always that person at the party who has their camera out, taking random photos and videos of what is going on. The majority of my screen time is spent looking through my camera roll!

So Olivia, why did you start this blog?
I created this website about a year and a half ago as I was approaching the end of my degree, as I wanted a place to showcase my portfolio of my photography and videography work. At University, I studied Media Studies and I focused heavily on shaping my degree towards production so I could develop my video and photo skills. I had always used both mediums as an outlet and a hobby while I was growing up, so being able to study it at University level allowed me to gain a complete new perspective on the subject. During my years at University and ever since I finished I have been involved in many projects and created quite a lot, therefore I thought a website was the most beneficial, professional and concise way to display my creations.
However, also since graduating from University, I have really missed researching and writing! It sounds crazy, but I really did enjoy writing essays, particularly when they were on topics I was passionate about (which to my luck was quite often - I really loved my degree!) I also feel like my mind has slowly been melting away over this past year, as my consumption of beneficial, academic texts have decreased and my social media consumption has rapidly increased, particularly over the various lockdowns. I need to get back into that scholarly mindset!
While speaking to one of my closest friends recently who is currently doing a masters degree, therefore is still in that studious mindset, I was actually getting FOMO when she was talking to me so passionately about an essay she had to research and write for! I literally said "I might just write an essay for fun".
An essay FOR FUN? It sounds bizarre I know.
Then my sister gave me an even better idea, and that was to start a blog on my website. I thought it was a great idea, so here I am: starting my blog. I am really excited for this new addition to my website, as blogs can be whatever you want them to be. I want to use it as a tool to fuel research and learning about subjects I am interested in, as well as a personal outlet documenting my experience and journey as a young, aspiring creative. Even if this becomes a version of an online diary that only I read, I am really looking forward to starting this journey! I feel like this is going to be extremely beneficial for my growth as a creative and as a person as well.
If you are interested in keeping up with various content, like what I have been up to creatively and the various ideas I have in my mind, then keep an eye out for future blog posts!
