Hello and welcome to my new blog series called ‘Shoutout Sundays’, where every Sunday I am going to shoutout creatives and entrepreneurs that inspire me. To start off the series, I would like to introduce you to the woman who is my top and number one inspiration. If I only had her to learn and take inspiration from and no one else, I would be perfectly okay with that.
Her name is ROMARNI BRYTZ.

I am super lucky to have this woman not only as my older sister, but also my business partner. Romarni is two years older than me, and although we have trod slightly different paths during our adolescence while we were building up our careers, we ended up going down very similar trajectories and now have the privilege to work together. What started as us both fusing our love for music and visuals together, this eventually lead to the creation of our visual media production company ‘The Brytz Sisters’ (but more on that later). We were quite lucky to have a creatively driven up bringing, always being encouraged to learn music, dance, and just to express ourselves artistically. Our parents also always had some kind of camera attached to their hip, be it for stills or a camcorder, and I am forever grateful for this as we not only have a visual recollection of our childhoods, but also I think this trained both our subconscious to want to capture and immortalise moments through photography and videography. Shoutout to them.

Just like our parents, since we were little we have also had cameras attached to our hips too, always being the friends that gather everyone we are with to pose for a quick photo. Here are some pictures from what you could consider our first ever photoshoot, where we stole our parents film camera, hid round in the side alley of our house, and finished the roll of film inside the camera. I do believe that was a pivotal moment and definitely sparked our journeys to becoming photographers.
In 2015, Romarni went off to the lovely coast of Brighton to study music at University. Two years later I followed her to the same city to study Media Studies, and we brought our legend cat Roger (also known as Fat Rog) to live with us. I find it funny that both of our degrees combined align with what we do now, and despite each of us studying only one half, we both integrated the skills of the other sisters degree into our lives during our studies. For example, Romarni was heavily involved with capturing visuals, both still and motion, for many musicians at her university, which subsequently lead to her creating content within the music industry. I also was involved in the local music scene in Brighton during my time at university, focusing many of my creative projects upon music in some way, and during that time I really honed in my skills of live gig photography and videography.
For Romarni’s dissertation and final project, she created a radio show to showcase new and upcoming talent within Brighton, and she kindly invited me to be her co-host. We decided to call the show ‘The Brytz Sisters’ - that is when a dream was born.
We had 6 guest shows on 1BTN, a great local radio station in Brighton. It was so fun and also pretty surreal to go live on radio, and it was a fantastic experience getting able to interview and see so many great artists play live in the studio! It took a couple of shows for us to nail the structure of the show, but honestly it had great potential to be a wicked show if we decided to continue it past the deadline of the project. I think even now, 8 years later, it still stands as a great idea. Fancy making a new radio show sis?
Fast forward a few years, apart from posting the occasional photo of us at festivals or gigs, our socials for The Brytz Sisters basically died out. That was until we both did a 3 week filmmaking course in Brighton - which albeit basic, covering everything we already knew (and also - in the most humble way - was already pretty good at); without us taking part in this course, we wouldn’t have had the inspiration and spark to rebrand The Brytz Sisters as a production company.
Since it's rebrand in November 2021, we have been involved in various projects, both within and outside of the music industry, from capturing live events, to creating music videos, to creatively directing socials for artists - and we are still developing and enhancing our skill set, with big plans to venture out into various pockets of the creative industries. Can you believe that I get to create my dream successful business with my very own sister? I am forever grateful. 🧡
Many people think we are crazy to work together being siblings, but since we know each other and get on so well, I think the dynamics of our working structure is perfect, as we uplift each other while also pushing each other to be better, to keep growing and always striving to improve. Romarni’s work is so PHENOMENAL, and I always say (without belittling myself and my own abilities of course) that she is the better half of The Brytz Sisters - without her I truly don’t know where I would be!
Go check out her work:
She also has some of her wonderful film prints for sale on her website: https://www.romarnibrytz.com/shop
Thanks for reading, I hope this encourages you to show some appreciation to someone you love this Sunday!
